More than 100,000 people will pass through Edinburgh Airport in the run up to Christmas as they travel to spend time with family and friends over the festive period.
Around 103,000 people will arrive into and depart from Scotland’s busiest airport between Friday 22 December and Christmas Eve, with more than 6,000 people travelling on Christmas Day itself.
Popular Christmas Day destinations include Doha, Tenerife, New York and Toronto, with people also travelling to hub airports like Amsterdam and Frankfurt as they connect to other destinations.
Gordon Dewar, Chief Executive of Edinburgh Airport said: “The festive season is one that many of us want to spend with family and friends and we are thrilled to help people reconnect at home and abroad – it’s our Christmas gift to them.
“Travel really brings people together but it also provides an opportunity for others to get away from it all so whether you are visiting family, exploring new destinations, or seeking a quiet few days, we hope everyone has a fantastic time.” The airport will also welcome a number of Hogmanay and New Year visitors between 29-31 December.
More than 55,000 people are expected to arrive into Edinburgh to see out 2023 and bring in the New Year, with people travelling from places such as the USA, Canada, Germany and Finland, as well as other areas of the UK.
Gordon added: “Edinburgh certainly knows how to throw a party and our Hogmanay celebrations are world renowned, so we should be honoured that people want to come to Scotland to celebrate and bring in the New Year with us.
“And whether it is Christmas or New Year, all of this is made possible thanks to the fantastic staff at the airport who are here to make sure people can get to their destinations and celebrate. A big thank you to everyone who is working over the festive period to help create happy memories for our passengers.”
